So, About this Redesign…
Posted on February 7, 2012
Holy crap, guys. This past Sunday night was the most productive I’ve been, ever, and I was hungover. Thanks to our annual work party, I spent most of the weekend waffling around in my sweatpants, eating toast and sucking down Gatorade, but around 10 p.m. on Sunday, the neurons started firing and this redesign just… fell into place. Decisions that usually plague me — blog names, logos, typefaces — barely had to be made. It all came together with astonishing grace and ease. I finished the bulk of this around 2 a.m., I think. Madness!
Why a redesign? It’s actually something I’ve wanted to do for a while — this blog in its last stage was fine, but always felt lacking, from the name (“Betwixt & Between”) to the layout. I would try reworking it every week or so, without success. So, I take the ease of this redesign as affirmation that B&B just wasn’t it.
This new layout comes with its challenges, but it’ll be a good visual exercise, and is a great setup for a new feature I’m hoping to launch this month. The redesign also allowed me to indulge in my current aesthetic obsessions: dusty pinks, corals, and Miss Moss-ian geometric shapes. (See moodboard to the left.)
Of course, this redesign is far from done (I may hate my top nav design, I haven’t decided yet), so expect tweaks and new architecture in the coming weeks. And, if you have any ideas or suggestions, let me know what you think!
